THE MAKERS of the online game World of Warships are marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day with THREE new operations related to the historic 1944 Allied invasion of France. Also included will be a brand-new port for players to use: Normandy.

Released in 2015, World of Warships is a free, historical, online naval combat PC game from Wargaming.net. With its massive fleet of most iconic war vessels, including five different ship classes and strategically designed environment, World of Warships provides the ultimate naval warfare gaming experience, suitable for everyone. Thanks to its largest collection of historically accurate ships available to play, the game prides itself as a digital ship museum and a focal point for naval history enthusiasts.

In the newly launched D-Day-themed Operations, players command the vanguard of the Allied armada steaming for Utah Beach. Enemy forces defend the objective, and it’s up to players to suppress the coastal defences and safely dock the beach.

The new Normandy-operations, which became available on May 29, are the latest in a long series of thematic content and innovative game modes that are added on to World of Warships on a regular basis. The additions provide a diverse and exciting gameplay experience to the broad player base.

Lasting two weeks each, new event battle types allow up to six players to compete in a division using Tier V to VII ships. Rewarding those who complete missions in addition to these Operations, players will receive Stars, which can be used to unlock special progression tracks containing rewards including historical commanders, camouflages, and patches.

To further mark the anniversary of D-Day, World of Warships will also be participating in the Portsmouth Armed Forces Day in the U.K. on 8 June, offering visitors a photobooth, game stations with a special D-Day mode, and panel discussions to enjoy.
